Internships at the DANK Haus German American Cultural Center

Internships are offered by the DANK Haus German American Cultural Center's many departments throughout the year and enable students to gain first-hand experience in their areas of interest or study. Interns, working under the guidance of the board of directors, curators or department heads, assist in routine departmental work that ranges from special projects and research to clerical/office membership support.

Interns are college students, or graduate students. Internships vary from department to department; a majority of internships are offered unpaid or for academic credit. Students are responsible for making appropriate arrangements with their schools to receive credit for internships. Hours vary and are flexible; however, a minimum of 14 hours per week is generally expected.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How can I find out about internships?
A: Open internships are updated twice a year. Application materials are accepted even if your department of interest is not listed.
Q: Which internships are paid?
A: Whether or not an internship pays depends on the department. If an internship is paid, it is so noted.
Q: Do you accept J-1 visa interns and trainees?
A: Yes, we have extensive experience with the J-1 process
Q: Do you offer housing?
A: Housing arrangements are not provided for interns. It is the intern's responsibility to find his/her own housing.
Q: How long does it typically take to hear back about an internship application?
A: A large number of internship applications are received, making it difficult to process them all quickly. Those applicants selected for an interview will be contacted.
Q: Is there someone I can call to follow up on my application?
A: Due to the large number of applicants, we contact only those selected for an interview.
Q: How do I apply?
A: Please send a cover letter and curriculum vitae indicating your desired Internship Title to dank@dankhaus.com or 4740 N Western Ave, Chicago IL 60625
